I’m kind of curious who people are going to name here. Like, the big obvious ones show up (Joyce, Proust, Nabokov, etc). But if I had to pick one, I’d say Kafka is probably the single most important and influential. I’d also put Conrad and Beckett on the list, even if Conrad doesn’t seem to get mentioned as much as I think he should. For some reason people act like he’s more “Victorian” or something. Anyway, these are all pretty famous writers, so go for it.
