Book recommendations for 8-12 year olds

Hi there, My nieces are really into reading, and I’d love to buy them a few books so they can start building their own little collection. Right now they mostly go with whatever they can find in the school library or whatever friends suggest. Their parents want to help too, but they don’t read much themselves, so they’re not totally sure what to pick. I’ve loved books for as long as I can remember, but when I was a kid I honestly had a hard time finding good stuff. Where we live, reading culture isn’t really a big thing, and the public libraries aren’t great/there aren’t many options. I’m hoping to give my nieces at least some of what I was missing. If you have any recommendations, I’d really appreciate it—trying to start their mini library. Thanks!
