Is Anna Karenina just a love story?

Hope this is okay to ask here—I’m not really looking for book picks, just trying to get a few different takes on *Anna Karenina*. Also, please no spoilers. I usually make a little summer reading list for myself and I’m excited to use the extra time, and I really want to include some Russian lit, especially this one since I’ve heard so much good about it. But I’m nervous it’s going to end up feeling like one of those dramatic, cheesy romance stories. If it’s a love story, I’d rather there be something more there than just romance for romance’s sake. I think I’m a bit cautious because my own interest in romance sort of died off when I was younger—like, I liked *Twilight* when I was a kid, but it never really made me care about that kind of story in a bigger, life-altering way. So yeah… I’m worried this might be more of a “sit back and watch” read than something that really pulls you in. Any thoughts on what the book is more like, or any general themes people notice?

Any good realistic romance novels?

I’m trying to find a romance that’s not just complete fluff. I want it to actually have some depth, not something written only to be a cute, light love story. Ideally it wouldn’t be only about the romance, but also stuff like sacrifice, compromise, and figuring out how to be okay with yourself and with the person you’re with. If anyone has recommendations, I’d really love to hear them—thanks!

I’m up to choose the next book for our group, and I’m finally trying romance. We usually stick to thrillers/mysteries, so I’m a little out of my comfort zone. I’ve only really read stuff like Beach Read and Twilight, so I don’t have many recommendations on my end. We’re hoping for something light and fun—does anyone have suggestions?
