Dutch books recommendation: two birds with one stone

Hey everyone, quick question—I’m trying to boost my Dutch vocabulary and get better at phrasing/sentence structure, and I figured reading Dutch books could help with that. I also kind of want to get a feel for what Dutch people value and what the “typical” vibe is, so I was wondering if there’s a go-to shortlist of books that most people are expected to have read at some point. And if there is, does it include *Max Havelaar*?
