Public reader discussion about The Gadfly in the WeRead Catalog by E. L. Voynich.

This could also be talking about those obscure books you only heard of because of some specific situation—could be fiction or non-fiction. And if it ended up being about a weird/unusual topic or an unusual genre, that’s a big plus.

Just finished The Gadfly. I remember it was one of those “you have to read this” books when I was a kid, mostly because the main characters were revolutionaries and it took a shot at religion. Reading it again now, though, it feels more like a really sad story about a man getting betrayed by the person he loved, then turning around and getting revenge on people he’s still somehow in love with. The whole revolution thing feels more like the backdrop to keep the conflict going. Has anyone else read it? What did you think?
