I've noticed when people read Mysteries the urge is to immediately try to figure out who the murderer is. Being quite guilty of this myself I've finally reached that point where I can enjoy the story for the quality of the writing and be pleasantly surprised at the ending.

I feel like mysteries kind of push you into that “Sherlock mode,” where you’re constantly looking for clues and trying to guess where the ending is headed. That’s why the better ones usually spread the clues out ahead of time, so you actually have a decent shot at solving it. And then the bad ones wait until the very end to toss in some random character detail that basically makes it impossible to figure anything out. Lately though I’ve been trying to just read for enjoyment instead of playing detective the whole time. I’ve been working through the Brother Cadfael books by Ellis Peters and I really love the writing, so I get wrapped up in the world and sometimes I forget it’s even a mystery, haha. I think it all comes down to how good the writing is, honestly.
