Looking for twist and turn murder mystery books

By hiddenDeer60

I’ve basically read all the Agatha Christie and Conan Doyle stuff I can find and I’ve enjoyed it every time. More recently I picked up The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and I really liked it. Now I’m just trying to find more murder mystery books with lots of twists and turns as you go.

What is your favourite crime-fiction/mystery book or series?

I’m trying to find some good crime/mystery books—any suggestions?

Looks like this place is mainly for asking for book recommendations, not just general book talk. If you want to chat about books in a broader way, probably better to go to /r/books or /r/literature. Also, if someone’s only here to plug a book, they’ll get banned. For promo stuff there’s /r/wroteabook. Please don’t make title-only posts either — use the text box and say what you’re looking for clearly, with examples if you can. No links in posts, and no “is this book worth reading?” type questions. Meta posts about this subreddit or any other one aren’t allowed either. In comments, just be decent and actually help if you can. Don’t jump on people or be rude about their requests or suggestions. Top-level comments should be recommendations or questions that help narrow things down. If you do use links, author pages or amazon alternatives are preferred, but don’t link to illegal stuff. Also, don’t use this as a place to market your own book too much, or you may get banned. Amazon links can sometimes get caught by spam filters, and short links usually get removed too, so full links are safer. Markdown is fine if you want the link to look cleaner. If you need to hide spoilers, use spoiler tags like this: [Spoiler:](#s "something unexpected happens") And of course, follow the site-wide rules too. If you have questions, message the mods.

Solve them yourself book mysteries!

By DavidInTucson1993

Pretty self-explanatory—I’m trying to find mystery books like *Cain’s Jawbone* (but I can’t find it anywhere). I’d love ones where you get all the clues up front and you can actually figure it out yourself, like how Agatha Christie does it with Poirot. He doesn’t reveal much until he’s basically finished investigating, then he lays everything out. Any suggestions?

Mystery Books similar to Sherlock Holmes

I’ve been really getting into Sherlock lately, and I’m almost done. I’d love more books like that—thanks!

Mystery author/book recommendations?

By figOwl559687

When I was younger I was really into those Encyclopedia Brown-style mystery books for kids, and I think I also read a couple things that were a bit more grown-up, but I can’t remember much of that. As I got older I kind of slid into more fantasy and sci-fi, and that’s still mostly what I read now. Honestly, a lot of my mystery time in my teens and twenties was just watching Criminal Minds with my dad, plus the occasional movie, and whatever SFF stuff happened to mix in mystery. Lately though I’ve been wanting to revisit mystery a bit more—mostly because of the Benoit Blanc movies and then discovering Columbo. I grabbed an Agatha Christie book earlier this year (The Mirror Crack’d) and I actually really liked it. I’m planning to read more of her, but I’m also wondering who else I should try, like famous authors and/or more modern ones. So yeah, any recommendations?

Detective books

I really love Agatha Christie, and I’m trying to find more detective series stuff. I’ve already gone through all the big mainstream ones though.

Mysteries with satisfying endings

By prologue_chaffer1978

I swear a lot of mystery/thrillers just end way too fast and kind of abruptly. Does anyone have any recommendations for books that actually wrap things up in a satisfying way?
