Lesser Known Classics by Women?

Hi! I’m putting together a book club and we’re focusing on classic books written by women. I’ve already got a couple picked out, but I’d love to add some less well-known titles—things like, not Jane Austen, not the Brontë sisters, not Mary Shelley, etc. Basically stuff you probably wouldn’t have covered in high school. Also, if anyone has suggestions that are outside the Western canon, that would be amazing. (So not only English/American authors.) Thanks in advance!

What books did you have to read in school that you enjoyed back then and still do now?

Seeing that recent question about which American authors people outside the US read in school made me think about what I went through back then. Honestly, I can’t think of that many books I had to read that I actually liked or found relevant, and that I’d still feel the same about now. For German lit, I’d say my two stand-outs are Brecht’s “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” and Kleist’s “The Marquise of O”. Not German: pretty much most of Shakespeare, and also a lot of the Conan Doyle stories.

List 3 classic novels from your country that you think people should read

Sorry if this kind of question has already been asked before. I really like classic literature, and I’m at least somewhat familiar with the big Russian/German/French/British/American works. But yeah, my “expertise” pretty much stops there. Still, I’d love to hear from people in those countries—if you had to pick, which 3 books would you choose? I’m curious what people would go with.
